SMART project - Smart Transition for Renewable Energy Communities was approved

The objective of SMART project is to research how electricity generation using RES, energy storage and distribution combined with flexible DR algorithms by use of digitisation, can bring both economic benefits to local energy stakeholders and lead to carbon neutral REC, decreasing energetic poverty and increase the penetration of RES generation, increasing the autonomy and resilience of communities.

The SMART aims to answer the following questions:

(1) How can different RES be integrated into a decentralised energy system and at the same time distributed equity through a flexible smart grid associated with a REC?

(2) What are the energy savings and economic benefits generated by the decentralisation of the energy system?

The pilot SMART Grid will be developed at Culatra Island (Ria Formosa, Portugal), more specifically at Culatra village.

The SMART project - Smart Transition for Renewable Energy Communities was approved for funding under call for proposals MPR-2023-12 - SACCCT - SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVELOPMENT PROJECTS (IC&DT) - INDIVIDUAL AND CO-PROMOTIONAL OPERATIONS.
